The three figures in the ornamental art are from the saga of Sigurd Fafnesbane. 
To the left is probably the dwarf Andvare with the ring in his hand. In the middle is Sigurd when he slays the dragon with his sword. To the right is one of the women in the saga giving Sigurd something to drink. The drink is probably magical, either it is a love potion or something to make him forget. There are two drinks in the saga.
About the runestone carver
In a book about runestones in Uppland, Sweden called “Upplands runinskrifter”, the runestone carver is described as a skilful master but that his normal material was wood, which makes sense
