The runestone today
Hovgården - Adelsö church is to the left and the runestone is in the middle

In the old harbor beneath the long gone king’s farm this runestone is placed to greet visitors coming by boat. Of course there is no water here now and the whole area is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List together with Birka across the water. Cows and sheep are grazing here.

Today the runestone is heavily damaged due to the fact that people (in the middle of the 19th century) have used it for a fire place. Lighting leaning branches on the sloping surface apparently gave the fire a lot of oxygen. Back then the runestone was not painted and it was difficult to see the carvings.
